Mixteco Ballet Folklórico is a distinguished cultural dance company dedicated to the research, preservation, and education of Mexican customs, traditions, and culture through the art of music and dance. Founded in 1992, the organization’s mission is to engage Houston-area youth in enriching cultural activities that foster artistic awareness and community pride.
Under the leadership of Group Director Jose Sada, Mixteco Ballet Folklórico emphasizes both mental and physical discipline, incorporating innovative choreography while honoring the traditional styles of Mexican folkloric dance. The group has earned significant recognition, including being a three-time Grand Champion at the annual Competencia Folklórica de Texas in Corpus Christi in 2015, 2016, and 2018.
Since its inception, Mixteco has achieved remarkable success locally, nationally, and internationally, performing at numerous events and competitions. The company has proudly represented Houston in various competitive dance events across the United States and beyond. Notably, Mixteco Ballet Folklórico has toured internationally to countries such as Macedonia (2012), Puerto Rico (2015), Peru (2019), and made a historic visit to the People’s Republic of China in 2013. During this visit, the group performed as part of the Sister Cities Association’s opening ceremony at a week-long cultural event, further solidifying their role as cultural ambassadors.
Mixteco Ballet Folklórico continues to inspire and educate through the vibrant celebration of Mexican heritage, contributing to the cultural fabric of Houston and the broader dance community.
